Laced With Love Bespoke Bridal Service

Now that Laced With Love is settled in the new studio, we are able to take on bespoke orders and have customers visit for design appointments and fittings.

The beauty of getting a bespoke dress made is that you can have the perfect dress created for you, in your choice of fabric, colour, cut and also add an extra details that you can't get with a standard shop bought dress.

I was recently asked to create a 50's style bridal gown for Laura - an alternative bride. The bride wanted a dress that would cover her back, which is something she was struggling to find in other boutiques.

Laura was looking for an ankle length dress with a blue underskirt peeking out under the dress to add a flash of colour and compliment her gorgeous quirky wedding shoes - printed with ice-creams!

Taking into account all of the requirements - an off white/ivory dress which is high at the back, waist cinching and not too full on the skirt here is the finished dress design. It may be hard to tell from the photo but the dress has a peek of blue tulle showing under the dress, which gave a flash of colour as the bride walked.

The dress has a delicious golden coloured sash to bring out the sparkle in the shoes, and a subtle flash of blue underskirt. The bodice is made from a gorgeous corded lace to cover the brides back and has 27 fabric covered buttons to give an elegant vintage look.

As a thankyou, I also made Laura a bespoke garter out of the spare tulle from her underskirt.

Laura was over the moon with her dress and garter and made a stunning bride.

End of Summer Fashion Show

Last week Laced With Love featured in the 'End of Summer Fashion Show' in Leeds.

The event is to showcase emerging talent in the fashion industry and so I was proud to be a part of it.

The show was held in Tiger Tiger bar in Leeds which was a good central location. The evening was opened with a violinist playing a range of classical and contemporary music.

The fashion show was opened by Claire Baxters collection, inspired by cabaret and playboy bunnies amongst other things. This was a great show opener and definately had a Lady Gaga feel about it!

Laced With Love showcased the 'Retro Poetic' collection along with some new designs shown below..

Printed floral basque with exposed metal zip, paired with an asymetric chiffon skirt.

Sunburst orange silk full circle dress with Laced With Love signature print bodice.

High waisted vintage pink silk knickers with matching bandeau bra.

High waisted knickers in jacquard silk with multi-panel corset.

The End of Summer Fashion Show was a great night and hopefully raised a lot of money towards Barnardos Charity.

New Studio!

Earlier this month Laced With Love moved into a new studio in Banks' Mill in the centre of Derbyshire.

Banks' Mill is an old rope mill which has been converted into 4 floors of studio space for creative businesses.

After working from a home studio for past couple of years, it is nice to have somewhere else to go each day - a place to be creative, make as much mess as I want and keep work out of the home.

The studio is my own little bit of Paris, with ornate french furniture, painted floorboards and exposed brickwork, it's the perfect peaceful space to work in.

It's somewhere to store all of my delicious silk and lace fabrics...

 and copious amounts of elastic!

And has what every studio needs - a retro pink minifridge!

If you're based in Derbyshire, come and see Laced With Love and the other creative businesses in Banks Mill for Open Studios on 22nd-24th November 2012.

Louis Vuitton and Marc Jacobs Exhibition

Whilst in Paris, on my last day I had some time to fill before catching my flight. Fighting temptation to go shopping, I decided to see what was on at the Textiles museum and found that there was a Louis Vuitton exhibition on, Perfect!

I always want to knowhow 'big name' designers got started, so it was interesting to read that Vuitton started out by interning with a local trunkmaker before starting making his own trunks which evolved into the high fashion luggage collection which we see today. It pays to get experience!

The exhibition has several fabulous displays of Vuitton's fashion lines, and the later collaboration with Marc Jacobs. Here are a few snaps of the displays, which include some rather interesting styling of the mannequins!

A flying visit to Paris ♥

I have been a little quiet on the blogging front lately, whilst making some decisions and plans for the future of Laced With Love.

I recently made a trip to Paris to get some thinking space, time out and to take in the breathtaking french charm which I find so inspiring.

Monmatre is my favourite area of Paris, for it's bustling streets full of fabrics and fine bakeries (with crepes to die for). Not to mention the Basilica de Sacre Coeur which happens to have beautiful weather whenever I have visited there.

I thought that staying in Monmatre would be a great idea, although I did not realise how hilly this area is. Rather than taking the uphill cobbled street route each time I returned to my hotel, I took the back route via the Basilica which meant climbing the hundreds of steps to the top, although the view more than made up for it.

The friendly hotel staff upgraded me to a top floor room so that I had the best view over the city.

From my hotel view I could spot the Eiffel tower, which added a bit of Parisian charm to my stay.

Now that I am back from Paris, feeling refreshed, inspired and all stocked up on beautiful silk and trims. I can't wait to get back in the studio and create the vision I have for Laced With Love.

Where I've been shooting lately.....

Well 2012 has been quite so far and only 6 weeks in.

I was recently asked to assist on a photoshoot for a fashion lookbook, shot in a fabulous townhouse in London.  The house was a mix of vintage chic and contemporary modern design. Sadly this was not a photoshoot for Laced With Love, as the modern-vintage setting would have worked so well!

My favourite room, was this gorgeous chic french bedroom, complete with it's own posh pooch! If I had my own way my whole house would be decorated in this way...

The basement was the complete other end of the spectrum, a stylish contemporary crisp white studio complete with modern light fittings and electric guitars, the perfect setting for a 1960's mod style photoshoot.

I love London for it's hidden gems like this stunning townhouse. The photoshoot was a fab day, and I can't wait to see the lookbook images.

New Year, New Ambitions...

A belated Happy New Year to you all!

Wow January has flown by and Laced With Love has lots to look forward to in the year ahead.

This month has been a quiet one, after 'the 24 briefs of Christmas' Laced With Love has taken a short break from sewing to concentrate on finding new suppliers and choosing fabric and trims. Not to mention the foundation behind all design - gathering research and inspiration.

Rather than the 'old skool' method of using pritt stick and random findings from magazines to build a mood board, I have now discovered the wonder of Pinterest to collate all inspirational images in one place, without getting sticky fingers!

If you're on Pinterest follow Laced With Love here:

Here you'll be able to see the inspiration behind new collections in the works and also see what influenced  the classic 'Retro Poetic' Collection.
